Le Masciare comes from modest beginnings, being founded in 2001 with just 4 hectares of olive groves and 4 hectares of Aglianico vineyards. After several years of making outstanding extra virgin olive oil, our founder Caterina Martone experienced firsthand the uniqueness of our territory for the winemaking of native Campania wines, with some pretty impressive reds starting to come out of the winery from 2005 onwards.
In 2009, seeing the need to expand and professionalize, the current owners and longtime family friends, Erik, Virna, Dario and Arjen stepped in. Under their guidance, Le Masciare invested in high quality machinery and expanding the winery, while at the same time acquiring or long-term renting vineyards in prime locations.
Our mission is to make handcrafted, small-lot wines that are the best possible expression of the local grape varieties of Irpinia: Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Coda di Volpe. To do this we focus on the quality of our vineyards and our grapes. It has been said time and again, but the best wines are made from the best grapes, and we have placed tremendous effort into the selection of the right vineyards, giving us grapes of quality and character.
